The Ocean Sports Centre
It’s been a good couple of years since we opened the new centre on Carbis Bay, moving from the town side of the beach to make way for the Carbis Bay Hotel’s grand plans and redevelopment of the water front. Over that time, not only has the beach seen some drastic changes but we have been constantly changing and up grading.
What started life as 4 wood clad containers, with a large decking area has grown onto the fully functioning sports centre we have now. Including an indoor changing area, a class room and a shop.
We have now go the space to run in house training courses (SUP instructors, RNLI etc) and paddle performance clinics (ocean Ski, SUP and foil) during the off season, with an undercover changing area for those less climatically favourable days, not that we get many down at Carbis Bay!
The biggest development this summer, alongside our SUP Lessons, and coastal tours, has been our shop. We always have people asking us to sell their products and sometimes things crop up that we think really are worth selling. With the new shelving and display area we can now do exactly that.
This year we have been lucky enough to be able to stock some great products from suppliers such as ebbflowcornwall who’s desire to embrace the spirit of the outdoors, unencumbered by stuff, led to the Humble Hammam towel which is the foundation of their ethos; multi-use, lightweight, practical, natural and beautiful. “Perfect for use on the beach, in your backpack, as a scarf, towel or picnic blanket…your essential companion for every day adventures…” an ethos we love and want to encourage.
Another great product you will love is the baskets from YGN Collective, ethically made in and imported from Myanmar. YGN Collective is a mother-daughter team who has lineage to Myanmar, they support organisations that empower women with training and by providing jobs making accessories. These baskets are woven near Mandalay by families living in challenging circumstances who are supported with a consistent income. Every basket is made by hand and contributes to sustain these families’ livelihood.
On top of these great products we have handmade jewelry, made right here in west Cornwall by local jewelers, a raft of original Ocean Sports design Tshirts as well as SUP’s and accessories from Starboard, more clothes and sunglasses – the list goes on, but why don’t you just treat yourself to a day on Carbis Bay, and while you’re there pop in and see us – we’d love to show you around, take your for a tour of the bay in a kayak or a real Hawaiian Canoe our you could join in one of our SUP lesson and learn a new skill.
