It’s almost the end of the year and in good tradition Ocean Sports has just had our end of year party at Pizza Express.

Taking over the whole of the upstairs with our excitable chatter with kids and adults alike, swapping stories and exciting tales of the fun and du kings we have all enjoyed over the year.

Yet again there have been successes on a personal and group levels, if it’s being able to paddle from Carbis beach to the harbour and back without falling in (much) to winning races everyone is represented in the fun.

Glenn’s speech was kicked off with a sweepstake to see how long he could go without a tear in his eye and he managed to hold back till almost the end, a new record.

The new award of club MVP went to Hattie for being the at the heart of our volunteering, Tilly Sanders won the Ocean Sports Cup, which is for the person who embodies our core ethos, of taking on personal challenges, enthusiasm, being a positive role model to those around them and for how they have progressed as a paddler.

Noah and Lorena won paddlers of the year award for their seemingly limitless sense of fun, smiles and fearlessness in taking on new challenges, from racing at this years Celtic Cup (their first ever race having only paddled for a few weeks).

Achievement of the year award went to Esther Martin, who completed a gruelling course at the national SUP club championships in the wrong age group, wrong distance and on a board she has never paddled before without once complaining.

We also had a new award made by Peter Keaves for most improved steerer which also went to Hattie. And finally, May and Marley one the ‘Froth Dog’ award simply for being THE most enthusiastic members of the club, always paddling something no matter what the conditions.

A big thanks to Glenn and Jill, without who we wouldn’t be here and being out on the water.

But wait…. 2019 is not over yet,

don’t forget the Boxing Day Dip meeting on the beach at 10:30 into the water bang on 11am with mulled beverages to warm up after.

Also the next in our fun competition at Stithians Lake, The Brass Monkeys Series, on December the 28th.
